The Public Relations profession is a strategic management function that nurtures mutually beneficial relationships for an organization with its customers, audiences, publics and stakeholders.

The Public Relations Society of America

On January 17, 1947, the Public Relations Society of America was formed through the merger of two organizations—the American Council on Public Relations and the National Association of Public Relations Counsel. The profession, with its roots in World War I, was coming of age in the Post World War II era. Locally, it quickly became a key ingredient in the successful promotion, growth and evolution of Las Vegas. Practitioners helped communicate Las Vegas as a “happy place” destination of glamour and entertainment. Compelling storytelling promoted it as the choice for domestic and global visitors, a place to create business and to live and work through and by communicating its myriad stellar diverse virtues, attractions, and quality of life.

Today, the Public Relations Society of America is 20,000 members strong in 110 chapters and 14 Professional Interest Sections. In Nevada, the Public Relations Society of Las Vegas Valley dates to 1975 when it was formed as the Nevada Chapter of PRSA. A volunteer and professional membership organization, its founders, and the 40 public relations professionals who have served as presidents over nearly five decades, are the veritable who’s who of the profession in the region.

Commitment to Professionalism

In an era marked by a continuing evolution and proliferation of communications channels and practices, PRSA provides a GPS, a compass, for the profession. With 100 members in the Las Vegas Valley Chapter in all sectors of our communities, the society today empowers its members to succeed at every stage of their careers through a wide breadth of professional development, leadership, and networking opportunities. We keep professionals current on best practices through Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), a rigorous review of professional competence, expertise, high standards and personal and professional dedication and values. We are proud that 30 percent of our members are APR certified. Nationally, it’s 19 percent.

Code of Ethics

Members of PRSA embrace a Code of Ethics that promotes ethical public relations practitioner behaviors to serve the public good through accurate and trusted information, and speaking out against the willful misrepresentation of, or confusion about, the communications profession.

The Future

With an eye always toward tomorrow, PRSA embraces the growth of the profession through collaboration with hundreds of college and university campuses across the country. The Public Relations Student Society of America engages, mentors and coaches students to help with career growth, with educational advocacy that promotes rigorous academic standards. In Las Vegas, we proudly partner with Nevada State College and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

PRSA Day 2023

The anniversary of the formation of PRSA’s formation and the contributions of the profession have been memorialized through proclamations by the City of Las Vegas and Clark County. We are honored, and the public relations and communications professionals across the region look forward to continuing the essential connection of our communities, and their residents, to the valuable information that is essential to society, citizenship, and our economy.
