Eric Duran-Valle is media communications specialist at Vegas PBS, where he has worked full-time since 2022. He provides the station with creative campaigns, speaking remarks, and newsletter composition. On any given day, he is either working on Vegas PBS's monthly SOURCE magazine; the programming/events newsletters Vegas Ventures, Engage, and Learning Neighborhood; or thinking of innovative ways to promote the organization's efforts.

Eric is a writer, audio producer, and volunteer. His writing has appeared in Lights Off, Desert Companion, In Parentheses, The Colored Lens, and the Nevada Humanities project Las Vegas Writes. In 2023, he helped establish Vegas Vista Academy, a K-5 school serving Las Vegas, and has served as the Board Chair since its authorization. He has audio engineering credits on indie albums Infinite Feedback, Theia Mania, Peliculas Caseras and audiobooks Sun City: A Hilariously Addictive Story of Rebellion and the forthcoming Stuck in Stowe.

In 2026, Eric was awarded a grant from the Nevada Arts Council to produce "The Radio Adventures of Ranger Roscoe," a unique podcast designed to teach both kids and adults important life skills. Created under the umbrella of his music project, Scoundrel of the Sage, the podcast is presented in the style of classic radio dramas like "The Lone Ranger." The podcast is live and available at RangerRoscoe.com.

Eric joined PRSA and our Las Vegas Valley Chapter in January. “I hope to hone my skills as a professional in this field and bolster my connection with Southern Nevada's PR community,” he said. He adds that he was familiar with PRSA for years through the Pinnacle Awards and the various networking opportunities the organization provides.

Eric is engaged in our community in many ways, from the arts, to education, to public broadcasting. We asked him, how does public relations play a role in all you do?

“To me, public relations boils down to one word: trust. Everything I do involves earning the trust of the public – and maintaining that credibility – and for good reason,” he said. “Public broadcasting's greatest asset is reliable quality content and thorough journalism. In education, parents are trusting you with – what I hope – is the most precious entity in their lives: their children. And especially in the age of generative AI, integrity is a key value in the arts. We'd hope that the work can speak for itself, but that can go unheard if your PR is insufficient in communicating that.”

Eric’s advice for communications professionals looking to grow their careers or community involvement: Keep your calendar full!

“The Las Vegas Valley is a surprisingly tight-knit community,” he said. “My various interests end up overlapping, which helps me bring value to my employer and my volunteer work. Go to mixers, meet people for lunch, let yourself get away from your desk every once in a while. Soon, you'll see how you can connect the threads you've found in a meaningful way. It all starts with a ‘hello.’”
