Mikayla Jones is a dedicated public relations, marketing, and communications professional on a career-long mission of turning stories into momentum and momentum into meaningful results for clients and organizations. With a decade of experience in public relations, public affairs, strategic communications, social media management and strategy, Mikayla has launched and reinvented brands across New York; Los Angeles; Washington, D.C.; Las Vegas; San Francisco; Miami; and beyond — earning PRSA Pinnacle Awards, securing stellar press hits, fostering meaningful relationships with media and clients, and cultivating a proven track record of success.

Mikayla graduated with a bachelor’s in history from Arizona State and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is an active member of the Junior League of Las Vegas and loves working with her Las Vegas community. As Director of Communications and Social Media for The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, she is responsible for the communications, PR & social media strategies for one of Las Vegas’ most exciting venues and cultural attractions.

“I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work in agency and public service settings in addition to my current in-house role. The needs and strategy for each environment varies, but in many ways the work is the same. Since the start of my career, PR has been flipped on its head, especially with the fast-paced news cycle, shrinking media market, and social media’s information explosion, but it has only solidified that our work is more meaningful than ever,” Mikayla said. “Though I’m in-house, I’m still a publicist at heart. From hosting interviews, to fostering relationships, it’s my ultimate goal that people, whether media or the general public, recognize me as a resource.”

The Mob Museum is an immersive, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that fosters a mission of advancing the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society, Mikayla said.

“Beyond world-class museum exhibits, we boast a thoughtfully curated lineup of public programs, a robust educational outreach program for local students, and beneath the museum you can transport yourself back to the 1920s at the Underground Speakeasy and Distillery. If you’ve not yet visited, come visit!” she said. “You’ll be disappointed that you waited so long, and don’t forget to bring your Nevada ID. We also offer two free days a year! More information on the Museum can be found at themobmuseum.org.”

Mikayla points to connection and resources as her “why" for being a member of PRSA and our Las Vegas Valley Chapter.

“It’s such a fabulous group of PR pros, and I was looking for new ways to connect with peers and to grow my skills,” she said. "Just like everyone else, I want to grow, learn more, and ultimately be the best public relations professional I can be. PRSA Las Vegas Valley's programming has really taken off, and it’s so exciting to learn from my peers. It’s also fun!”

We asked her, what advice might you have for communications professionals looking to grow their careers or community involvement?

“Get involved with PRSA and say yes to challenges,” she said. “You might think you know everything because you read a lot or have grown along with social media, but an organization like PRSA is an incredible way to expose yourself to new methods and opportunities. We’ve all been baptized by fire at some point, but remind yourself that failure is just an opportunity to learn.”
